This year’s showcase series launched in October 2022 stops in St. Paul and Red Wing, and will continue January-March, 2023 with tour stops in Rochester, Northfield, Austin, and Duluth. 3PM Workshop: Music Careers in 2023, Presented by Scott LeGere
Carleton College Weitz Center for Creativity
Creating a career in music is a constantly changing and sometimes challenging endeavor. In order to empower your next steps, this workshop will cover topics including digital distribution, revenue streams, and resources for Minnesota musicians to help you broaden your potential opportunities in our exciting music environment.

4PM Workshop: Songwriting with Sarah Morris
Carleton College Weitz Center for Creativity
So you want to be a songwriter? Then, you start by writing songs! Could it be so simple? YES! For a few years, Sarah Morris called herself a songwriter, without actually writing many songs. A dive into prompt based writing, and embracing the mantra that 'a done song is better than a perfect song' has led to a robust songwriting catalog, 4 albums of original material, and the chance to play these songs across the country. In this workshop we'll talk about how to get started, and ways to stay going.

About the Artists

Undeniably prolific, NUNNABOVE is Minneapolis’ latest and greatest – weaving in and out of a wide variety of fresh styles, with astonishingly rich musical imaginations. The group delivers on a distinctive sound that leaves the listener wanting to hear more. The 4-sibling group NUNNABOVE was featured on season 13 of America’s Got Talent. They have been called, “the next generation of the Minneapolis sound.” They weave styles of Pop, Rock, R&B, Jazz and Neo-Soul seamlessly with a fresh, youthful vibe. NUNNABOVE is: Cadence (21)Bass/Vocals, Mattie (20) Keys/Vocals, Bennett (19) Guitar/Vocals and Wisdom (17)Drums/Vocals. NUNNABOVE has shared the stage with the 3-time Grammy Award winning Sounds of Blackness, The Steeles, Stokely, and many others. Their debut album, “Season: One,” is available on digital outlets everywhere. They have just released their new single “Appreciate Me,” and are tour ready for the post-covid world.

Sarah Morris - Growing up in a house where Brenda Lee, Johnny Mathis, and Bing Crosby crooned through the family speakers all season long, Sarah comes by her deep love for Christmas songs honestly. In her 16th year of Holiday Shows, Sarah is also celebrating putting that love for holiday music into a new little album. ‘merry little, light’ is a cozy, intimate recording of 4 classics and one original tune, meant to encourage cuddling under blankets, or contemplation underneath the glittering winter stars. 2018 Kerrville New Folk Winner; twice-named Midwest Country Music Organization’s Songwriter of the Year, Sarah Morris aims to document the glorious details of our messy, magical lives. Called a “country-leaning Norah Jones” (Star Tribune), Morris wields a keen eye and a captivating voice; offering poignant, relatable songs with timeless melodies.

About the Workshop Presenter

Scott LeGere - Over the past 20 years, Scott LeGere has played key roles in the ownership and operation of audio recording facilities, independent record labels, media schools, and commercial music production companies. During this time, he has engineered Grammy nominated albums, produced critically acclaimed independent projects, lectured nationally at conferences and events, and foolishly hauled both Yamaha CP-70s and Hammond B3s (concurrently) to gigs all over the country.

In 2010, he co-founded NoWare Media, a composition focused sound agency, and helped produce Clio, Emmy, and Cannes Lion award winning commercial spots for corporate clients such as Target, Walmart, The Minnesota Wild, Bauer Hockey, BluDot, and others.

In addition to his professional commitments, Scott has concentrated much of his recent time and efforts into empowering the next generation of creatives, teaching at a variety of Minnesota colleges and universities. Now an Assistant Professor of Music Industries at Minnesota State Mankato, Scott tries desperately to translate the above “career” into a model for aspiring musicians and industry professionals.
