Americana Acoustic Folk Northeast MN (Arts Council Region 3)
Matty has been singing and performing on stage for as long as he can remember. He began writing music in middle school shortly after being gifted his first acoustic guitar and he hasn’t stopped since. Teaming up with songwriting virtuoso Marcus Lohrmann, he co-founded the indie rock and roll band known as Buckman Page way back in 2005 while attending Valparaiso University in northwest Indiana.
Buckman Page enjoyed regional success at a variety of venues following their move to Chicago in 2009 and Matty made a home there with his spouse for over a decade. Following the hiatus of his beloved Buckman Page midway through his time in Chicago, Matty then joined forces with front-porch folk-rockers Dan Beirne, Tommy Grevlos, and Ryan Burns (Ryan Burns & The Vocal Ghosts) to form Distant Brothers, and they performed at venues in and around Chicago and select Michigan locations (South Haven, Holland). It was during this time that Matty expanded and refined his multi-instrumental skills (guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele).
Matty now lives in northeast Minneapolis with his spouse and he is focusing on his solo music with the intention of performing around the twin cities. Some of Matty’s musical influences include James Taylor, Jim Croce, Ray Lamontagne, Amos Lee, Phoebe Bridgers, and Aimee Mann.
